The Exchange

The Exchange is an interactive, web based graffiti project started in 2005 by Rime MSK. It started with six participants from different areas of the United States with the goal of each member in the collective helping the other members develop their individual styles by treating the others’ names with their own aesthetic. The objective is to create an awareness of distinct lettering styles and trends and for all in the group to become more versatile through attempts at graffiti styles that are out of their personal comfort zone.

The group is currently made up of 35 members from 14 countries worldwide. The participants of The Exchange trade names and personal styles through sketches. The sketches are drawn, scanned, and traded via email. They are then printed out and executed by the receiving artist in their particular city.This step is repeated until everyone in the group has traded outlines at least once.

This is a sketch I did for Bates

I participated in the project starting in 2006 and joined 13 of the artists on a four city tour in 2007 stopping in San Francisco California, Las Vegas Nevada, Los Angeles, California and Tucsan Arizona. The tour was sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon. The group mounted an art exhibition, and painted a collaborative mural in each of the four cities above.
